“Explore Your Interests” consists of four aspects on campus to help students familiarize themselves with campus resources. Here, students are able to learn about the Strong Interest Survey, contacting an Academic Advisor, Introductory Courses offered, and Student Life. My Next Move Survey
For those of you who are still unsure of what to major or minor in, we recommend that you complete the MY NEXT MOVE profiler. This short survey of your interests can help you match your interests to a variety of careers and majors. After completing this activity, print out or save your results and make an appointment to meet with your Academic Advisor for some additional help in matching those interests to our majors, minors, and certificates offered here at BYU–Hawaii.
Contact an Academic Advisor
Academic Advisement provides assistance in all areas of a student’s academic life. While college life can be overwhelming, academic advisors are available to provide support and guidance. The student is ultimately responsible for his or her own academic progress towards completing the degree requirements for their “Holokai” or academic journey. Advisors can help students make appropriate short and long term academic decisions.
Take Introductory Classes
Mapping out your own academic voyage allows you to have both breadth and depth of knowledge in a combination that will set you on your voyage to your own personal destination in life. Not sure what you want your major or minors to be? Take introductory courses and allow them to introduce you to a new world. In general, 100-level courses are the introductory courses to each program.
Student Life & Your Holokai
BYU–Hawaii has vibrant and diverse activities and services that can enrich your student life. When President Marion G. Romney dedicated the Aloha Center, he referred to this campus as a “living laboratory in which [you]…have an opportunity to develop appreciation, tolerance, and esteem for one another.” As a new student, you will have important experiences at New Student Experience that will serve as a guidebook and give you a solid start for success. An important part of your Holokai is getting involved on campus in sports and activities, service, and clubs. Here you will meet lifelong friends and feel the power of belonging to this Ohana. Turn to Counseling and Disability Services, the Health Center, Financial Aid, International Student Services, Residential Life (the Hales/TVA) and many other resources to help guide you on your journey.
